Inc.com, the website of Inc. magazine, faced the challenge of turning the magazine’s annual Inc. 500 list and accompanying research into engaging, actionable insight for both editors and readers. Static reports made it hard to spot regional, industry, and company-level trends in the 2005 data, and the site needed a way to let users explore the list on their own terms.
To solve this, Inc.com embedded Spotfire’s DecisionSite interactive visual analytics, providing linked maps, charts, filters and range sliders that let editors and visitors drill into live data. The tool quickly revealed patterns (e.g., New England had the most winners, the Southwest showed the highest median growth, the Northwest led advertising growth) and let users filter by industry or size, rank companies by revenue or growth, and draw customized conclusions—boosting insight, engagement, and the speed of discovery.
