Portugal Telecom Calls on TIBCO Spotfire Analytics as an Agile BI Service Offering and to Measure Its Own Business Objectives

Portugal Telecom Sistemas de Informação (PT-SI), the IT division of Portugal Telecom with about 1,500 employees, needed an agile BI-as-a-service offering and better visibility into KPIs across roughly 500 active projects that generate about 1,000,000 rows of data daily. Traditional Excel-based reporting was overwhelmed by volume and complexity, requiring dedicated staff three to four days each month to prepare datasets and leaving line managers dependent on IT for new analyses.

After a proof of concept, PT-SI selected TIBCO Spotfire for its ability to handle large, multi-source datasets and enable self-service analytics. Deployed internally first, Spotfire reduced KPI analysis from days to under an hour, saved several days of monthly data prep, freed resources for higher-value work, increased manager independence and faster decision-making, and has been rolled out as PT-SI’s BI-as-a-service for external customers.
