NXP Semiconductors, a global maker of mixed-signal electronics, struggled to control margins across a complex sales model that included both direct and distributor channels. The company needed constant visibility into regional distributor incentives, pricing and margin leakage, but a static, IT-dependent BI environment made data mashups slow and left analysts spending most of their time collecting and preparing data instead of analyzing it.
NXP deployed TIBCO Spotfire self-service analytics to put business users in control and quickly mash up sales and distributor data. The platform enabled fast outlier detection (early use uncovered anomalies that saved $2 million), shifted analysts’ time from routine data work to high-value analysis (roughly flipping the 80/20 split), improved transactional system performance, and is being extended to other departments to support aggressive margin optimization and growth goals.
