Leveraging the TIBCO Stack to Develop Value-driving Energy Apps

Birchcliff Energy, a Canadian producer of natural gas, light oil, and natural gas liquids, needed fit‑for‑purpose applications to support evolving technical requirements—specifically to analyze complex fracture interaction (FDI) events with high precision and to go beyond the visualization and analysis capabilities of a commercial physics simulator.

Using the TIBCO stack (Spotfire, TIBCO Runtime for R/TERR, Python, and TIBCO Data Virtualization), Birchcliff built two apps: a Spotfire application with closed‑loop TERR algorithms to featurize FDI events and save custom features to a SQL database, and an analytics/Python layer that extends a third‑party simulator for deeper visualization and dissection. The result is a set of value‑driving energy apps that deliver higher‑precision analytics and expanded expert insight beyond the native simulator tools.
