GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a major research-based pharmaceutical company, identified a bottleneck in drug development tied to its statisticians’ ability to produce high-quality graphics: too few graphs were being made, they took too long, quality was inconsistent, and some platforms couldn’t produce publication-ready output. Because visual analysis drives exploratory work, team discussions, regulatory submissions and publications, GSK sought an easy-to-use, validated graphics environment to improve efficiency and communication across therapeutic areas.

GSK partnered with Insightful to deploy the S-PLUS-based Clinical Graphics Solution (S-PLUS Graphics Toolkit and Enterprise components), a cross-platform system that produces transportable, reproducible graphics for both Windows exploration and UNIX regulatory reporting. Rolled out to more than 200 users (with 400 expected), the solution enabled rapid, customizable, high-quality plots, reduced rework, supported validated workflows for submissions, and accelerated decision-making—delivering cost and time savings while improving scientific interpretation and communication.
