Fort Worth Fire Department Looks to TIBCO Spotfire Analytics for Decision Support and Performance Measurement to Better Serve the Community

The Fort Worth Fire Department (FWFD) serves more than 700,000 residents across 334 square miles with 1,000 employees, 42 stations and six battalions, responding to over 82,000 incidents annually (60% EMS). FWFD struggled to integrate data spread across multiple databases—relying on ad hoc SQL, Excel and static SSRS reports—which made it difficult to get timely, interactive visibility into personnel, turnout times, inspections and incident reporting.

After evaluating six vendors, FWFD adopted TIBCO Spotfire to deliver interactive dashboards and self-serve analytics for HR, performance appraisals, incident completion, turnout time, inspections and training. Spotfire improved data integrity, streamlined reporting (25 Web Player licenses in use within months), increased inspection completion from 74% to 83%, boosted compliance and peer accountability, and earned FWFD a Public Technology Institute award for its data-driven decision support.
