Essent, a Dutch-Belgian energy supplier serving roughly 2.5 million electricity and 2.2 million gas customers, faced a rapidly changing market—supplier switching, regulatory unbundling, and expansion—while customers demanded fast, reliable self-service. Legacy, tightly coupled systems slowed adaptation and threatened competitiveness, creating an urgent need for a decoupled, high-performance architecture.
Essent implemented TIBCO’s integration and messaging platform (ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks, Enterprise Message Service, and historically Rendezvous), modularized its landscape, and moved toward microservices with help from TIBCO Professional Services. The new architecture handles about 60 million messages per day, enables cost-saving self-service, speeds partner-led innovation, improves customer and employee response times, and positions Essent for further digitalization and IoT integration.
