Citibank Asia embarked on a digital transformation to stay competitive in a mobile-first market, aiming for greater agility, lower costs, higher quality and simpler systems. Leadership mandated faster time-to-market and new customer experiences after realizing traditional processes—like six-month deployments—couldn’t keep up with evolving business needs.

Partnering with TIBCO and its Professional Services, Citi standardized middleware and adopted ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks, Messaging and BPM to build an event-driven, API- and microservices-ready platform. The initiative cut credit card preapproval to 10–12 minutes and delivery to 2 days (from 7–14), enabled four major releases a year plus monthly minor releases, and supports single-weekend production cutovers across 10+ countries—significantly accelerating development and deployment.
