Biota Technology, a pioneer in industrial genomics, set out to apply medical- and lab‑grade DNA sequencing to subsurface exploration for oil and gas. To be first to market it needed to scale a highly complex data problem: individual samples produce roughly 20,000 sequences across ~100 DNA markers and the company manages hundreds of thousands of microbial data points that must be integrated, tracked, and analyzed to inform drilling decisions.

By adopting TIBCO Spotfire, Biota integrated and visualized multiple data sources, enabled synchronous querying, and launched Genesis AI—a platform that fuses DNA markers, probability logs, and oil-and-gas metadata into a single, actionable workflow (including a flagship total fluid contribution log). The solution accelerated insight with interactive workflows, improved development plans and operating efficiency, and delivered hundreds of millions in customer savings while conserving large volumes of water.
