Autostrade per l'Italia Creates Safer Roads with Highway Analytics

Autostrade per l’Italia, a major European motorway concessionaire managing ~3,000 km of roads, 4,000+ bridges and tunnels, and about 2.5 million vehicles daily, needed a single, trusted view of its complex, distributed data. The company sought better access to construction and maintenance information to optimize operations, reduce the impact of roadworks on drivers, and enable a data-driven cultural shift by delivering timely KPIs to stakeholders.

Using the TIBCO Connected Intelligence platform and Spotfire, Autostrade consolidated 20 years of traffic data into a data lake, built easy dashboards, and created digital twins, a risk index, and 250‑meter road snapshots. The solution standardized ~300 KPIs, cut traffic-chart creation from 12–18 hours to under a minute, achieved 97.5% accuracy in estimating traffic backups, and helped the company advance 22 points on its maturity model while improving road safety and operational agility.
