Mastering Oracle® Hyperion EPM Metadata in a distributed organization

United Technologies, a global industrial conglomerate with 1,000+ legal entities and dozens of Hyperion applications across multiple business units, needed to centralize and govern Oracle Hyperion EPM metadata. They faced challenges with synchronizing multiple HFM instances, sharing dimensions across EPM and non‑EPM systems, supporting versioning (as‑of, effective‑dated, what‑if), and replacing error‑prone Excel and custom DRM processes. To solve this they chose TIBCO EBX (EBX5) as a central MDM for their Hyperion landscape.

TIBCO EBX implemented a single EBX5 MDM with pre‑built dimension models, browser UI, built‑in workflow, Excel "Rainbow" exports/imports and APP/XML/ETL integrations to HFM, Essbase and Planning. As a result, one EBX5 instance now governs 24 production Hyperion applications, maintains full version history and comparison reporting, eliminated the spreadsheet/DRM Automator steps, supported mass adds/moves and M&A app provisioning, and improved change traceability and business unit confidence with faster, controlled metadata updates.
