Thunderstone Data Services For Searching A Web-based Resource To Help Students With Homework

The Lincoln Library Press created FactCite, a web-based homework resource for students in grades 4–12, and needed powerful search technology that could handle a growing body of content while supporting secure access for school subscribers. After evaluating options including Google, the company chose Thunderstone, initially via a Search Appliance and later through Thunderstone Data Services for hosted search.

Thunderstone implemented a Texis-based hosted search solution with customized login and access-control features, including IP-based access for schools and shared credentials for home use. The result was a search system that was fast to deploy, easy to manage, and effectively invisible to the customer to operate; Lincoln Library Press reported that the hosted service feels the same as the appliance and that Thunderstone’s solution has run smoothly while supporting continued expansion of FactCite’s online content.
