How SSE use an app to deliver business critical safety information and connect employees’ everyday jobs to the company’s wider strategy

SSE, the UK and Republic of Ireland energy company, needed a better way to reach its 8,000 field- and home-based employees and to share business-critical safety information more effectively. Working with Thrive, SSE set out to connect employees’ day-to-day work with the company’s wider strategy while overcoming intranet, bandwidth, and device-access challenges.

Thrive delivered a mobile employee app combining SSE and industry news, safety content, employee benefits, careers information, strategy updates, and safety incident reporting. The app went live in April 2016 and had attracted over 4,000 unique registered users by September 2016; employees reported that it was easy to use, helped them stay informed on the move, and improved access to updates without needing a PC or laptop.
