Case Study: Springer achieves mobile-first, responsive content access with ThoughtWorks

A ThoughtWorks Case Study

Preview of the Springer Case Study

Springer - Customer Case Study

ThoughtWorks partnered with Springer, a leading STM publisher, to extend their newly launched digital content platform to mobile users. With development resources tied up by other priorities, the experience design team proposed a mobile‑web (rather than native app) approach to make Springer content instantly accessible on phones and tablets while keeping other projects on track.

The team implemented a Mobile‑First, responsive UI using semantic HTML, modular front‑end architecture, SASS, breakpoint-based layouts and performance optimisations (including lazy loading and asset compression). Delivered largely by the design team, the result was a fast, app‑like experience without downloads, lower total cost of ownership, strong customer and sales interest, and Mobile First practices embedded into Springer’s ongoing product development.
