The Place2Be is a UK charity working in 172 schools to improve children’s emotional wellbeing and relies on rigorous research and evaluation. Its mandatory, paper-based process for recording every contact slowed analysis and was costly—data was months (up to 12–18 months) out of date, creating delays and extra burden on the in-house research team.

ThoughtWorks built a bespoke, cost‑effective web-based data capture portal using Agile methods, piloted it and rolled it out with staff training across all schools. The solution delivered real‑time regional and national results, dramatically shortened turnaround time, freed up research resources, is expected to pay for itself within five years, and has led to interest in extending the approach to other paperwork.
