The Information Centre (IC) is the NHS’s leading health and social care information body in England, employing over 600 people and supporting up to 60 concurrent software projects. One Agile-mature team that ran two-week iterations and six- to eight-week releases struggled to collaborate across floors using an unreliable physical card wall and sought an online tool to improve stakeholder communication, visibility and project management.

They adopted ThoughtWorks’ Mingle, using its virtual card wall and a shared repository as the basis for iteration and release management (planning about 70 story points per iteration). Within eight months Mingle spread to 60 people across 11 teams, improving collaboration with business stakeholders, reducing reporting and documentation effort, increasing project visibility, and driving adoption of consistent engineering best practices for more predictable, higher-quality deliveries.
