Morrisons, a major UK supermarket chain, needed to move quickly into online retail by launching its first transactional mobile e-commerce site for wine while integrating with existing enterprise systems (including assets from its Kiddicare acquisition), meeting a fixed launch date, and building internal capability to support future online channels.

ThoughtWorks delivered a cross‑device HTML5 mobile web application plus a reusable back-end of RESTful enterprise services (content, accounts, payments, fulfillment), enabling desktop and mobile experiences to ship on schedule. The result was a feature-rich Morrisons Cellar launched on time, reusable services and colleague knowledge that speed future market entries, and a strengthened platform for multichannel growth—retail agility achieved.
