lastminute.com, a leading European online travel and leisure provider, needed a faster, more customer-driven way to discover and deliver product ideas—especially for mobile—across its global brands (including Travelocity and Zuji.com). Faced with long idea-to-market cycles, the company partnered with ThoughtWorks to unify product management and engineering and build a repeatable “Innovation Engine” to accelerate mobile web development.
Together they implemented a Mobile First, Continuous Discovery and Continuous Delivery approach with cross-disciplinary teams, rapid prototyping, frequent user testing and automated deployments. In 20 weeks they delivered a new global mobile web platform (the “Hotels Near Me” feature shipped in three months), ran weekly usability tests with real customers, achieved automated deployments in about 11 minutes, and created a scalable capability that cuts cycle time and underpins future mobile development.
