Gruppo-PAM - Customer Case Study

Gruppo PAM, a large Italian supermarket conglomerate, was constrained by ageing legacy systems that made change slow, costly and risky while increasing maintenance overhead. Replacing everything at once was impractical and threatened loss of embedded business knowledge, so the company needed a way to move faster and deliver high-value change without a big‑bang rewrite.

ThoughtWorks used a guerrilla SOA approach to ring‑fence new services and connect to legacy systems via a lightweight REST bridge, and established a Continuous Delivery pipeline to enable rapid, incremental releases. Two major systems—a Pricing solution delivered in 8 weeks and a Contract Negotiation tool delivered in months—cut the pricing cycle from three weeks to one (price calculations from 9 hours to 15 minutes), achieved over 90% acceptance of automated pricing recommendations, and delivered faster supplier rebates and improved margins with a rapid ROI.
