Cummins Western Canada (CWC) is a regional arm of the global engine manufacturer with 830 employees across 14 branches from British Columbia to Ontario. Facing the challenge of capturing frontline knowledge and moving beyond one-way communications, CWC wanted a practical way to surface employee expertise and stories without the cost and complexity of customizing SharePoint within a shrinking budget.
CWC implemented ThoughtFarmer’s out-of-the-box intranet, “PowerZone,” with professional services for setup and training. Launched in October 2012, the platform quickly drove engagement — story submissions jumped from an expected two a month to about three a week, daily usage rose to over 70% (from 29%), policies and safety workflows moved online, and community features like blogs, forums and contests boosted recognition and awareness. The result: stronger cross-branch connections, higher employee engagement and an improved Net Promoter Score.
