A ThoughtFarmer Case Study
Intrawest Placemaking, the real-estate development arm of Intrawest with ~250 employees across North America and Europe, faced a challenge: a traditional, centrally managed intranet wasn’t capturing institutional knowledge, connecting a dispersed workforce, or engaging newer digital-native hires. Leadership wanted a low-cost way to encourage knowledge sharing, reduce information silos, and strengthen company culture without adding admin overhead.
They adopted ThoughtFarmer, a wiki-style intranet that lets nearly every employee add and edit content. Usage jumped tenfold (1,486 unique users shortly after launch), collaboration and cross-office relationships increased, and employee-driven innovations delivered measurable value — one manager’s shared method saved $500,000 and similar ideas promise further savings. The platform also enabled self-organized initiatives (e.g., a Green Team), reduced content maintenance burden, improved transparency and retention, and saw no misuse thanks to accountable, authenticated posting.
