A ThoughtExchange Case Study
Westview School Corporation, an Indiana district split roughly 50/50 between conservative Amish families (many leaving after grade 8) and “English” families, was confronting state funding shortfalls and the possible need for a general-fund referendum. The district’s biggest challenge was reaching and finding common ground between two communities with different values and limited interaction—traditional online surveys couldn’t access Amish households and past engagement kept the groups separate.
Westview used Thoughtexchange to combine email outreach to English families with paper-and-pencil collection for Amish households, merging responses into one platform so everyone’s ideas appeared together (1,025 participants, 2,698 thoughts, 86,106 stars). The unified conversation revealed shared priorities, built community dialogue, informed a technology scope and sequence, and enabled a one-to-one Chromebook program for high school students that received broad support.
