A ThoughtExchange Case Study
Pentucket Regional School District—a three‑community district in northeastern Massachusetts—faced a decision about two aging 1950s secondary school buildings amid declining enrollment and strong local identities that often hindered collaboration. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Mulqueen needed to show the state there was community agreement on a facilities plan and to surface honest community views on whether to keep a Grade 9–12 high school or move to a combined Grade 7–12 facility.
Pentucket partnered with Thoughtexchange to run a confidential, independent community conversation that let everyone contribute and see common interests, not just the loudest voices. The exchange clarified that a shared facility could be the best path, gave the school board and designers direct, actionable insights, broadened understanding of community needs, and allowed the district to move forward with greater consensus.
