The College of Pharmacists of British Columbia, the provincial regulator that licenses and sets standards for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, sought to improve its practice review system and ensure consistent, high-quality pharmacy care across the province. Facing a diverse profession and the need to balance member input with its duty to protect the public, the College undertook what it believes was a first-of-its-kind, profession-wide engagement to determine what the new real‑time, workplace-based practice review should include.
Using Thoughtexchange to engage its 5,000 members, the College drew over 1,500 participants who generated nearly 5,000 thoughts and could view and prioritize others’ ideas, producing rapid, representative feedback and greater transparency. The process increased mutual understanding and trust, helped the College balance member views with public safety, and directly informed the pilot for the new practice review program (planned for early 2015), yielding strong member buy‑in and a smarter regulatory approach.
