A ThoughtExchange Case Study
The College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) is the regulatory college and professional association for more than 37,000 registered nurses and nurse practitioners in Alberta. Faced with the sensitive, potentially polarizing issue of mandatory influenza immunization—and finding that traditional engagement methods were leaving many members feeling excluded—CARNA needed a way to surface diverse views and build a shared voice across its membership.
CARNA used Thoughtexchange’s large-scale online collaborative process to invite members to respond to scenarios and prioritize ideas. The engagement drew 4,767 participants who contributed 18,480 thoughts and cast 199,575 stars, producing high-quality, actionable insight; it helped move members toward common ground—centered on patient safety—yielded reports for stakeholders, and established an efficient model for future member-driven conversations such as the planned “Uniquely RN” initiative.
