Woodside Energy removes a 2,500-metric-ton RTM with Thornton Tomasetti

Woodside Energy, an energy company, faced the challenge of safely removing a large 2,500-metric-ton riser turret mooring from an offshore site in Western Australia. The project required a rigorous, regulator-approved safety case to mitigate risks to personnel during the complex decommissioning operation. Thornton Tomasetti was engaged to provide its energy and petrochemical services to address this challenge.

Thornton Tomasetti worked collaboratively on-site with Woodside Energy for nine months to develop the safety case. The vendor conducted extensive risk evaluations and facilitated workshops with all project partners, including the marine contractors, to identify and control potential hazards. This thorough process implemented by Thornton Tomasetti ensured the safe and successful removal of the riser turret mooring, which was completed in 2023.
