Waynflete School creates a 30,000 ft² PHIUS+-certified campus addition with Thornton Tomasetti

The Waynflete School required a new 30,000-square-foot Lower School addition to its campus that was designed to be an environmentally friendly, PHIUS+-certified structure. Thornton Tomasetti was engaged to provide structural design and passive house consulting services for the project.

Thornton Tomasetti conducted detailed energy analyses to verify the project met stringent certification criteria and to evaluate the most cost-effective systems. The resulting building, featuring high-performance elements like triple-glazed windows and R-40 walls, is expected to be more than 50 percent more efficient than a typical high-performance school building.
