University of Missouri expands Memorial Stadium with Thornton Tomasetti to add 5,000 seats

The University of Missouri sought to upgrade the south end zone of its Memorial Stadium, replacing outdated bleachers with a modern facility to generate additional revenue and provide new operational spaces for its football team. Thornton Tomasetti was engaged to provide structural design and construction engineering services for this complex expansion project.

Thornton Tomasetti designed a steel-framed structure that included precast concrete seating and a lateral system of steel braced frames. The solution successfully added 5,000 premium seats, new club and suite spaces, and a new home for football operations complete with offices, meeting rooms, and a large column-free weight room. The project was completed on time for the 2019 football season, directly achieving the university's goals of enhanced revenue generation and improved team facilities.
