Under Armour builds 280,000 ft² global headquarters with Thornton Tomasetti

Under Armour sought to build a new global headquarters in Baltimore that reflected its commitment to performance and sustainability. Thornton Tomasetti was engaged to help architect Gensler develop a structural design that would embody these values for the 280,000-square-foot office building.

Thornton Tomasetti performed a comparative analysis of mass timber, concrete, and steel, using its Beacon technology to calculate embodied carbon. This led Under Armour to select a mass timber structure. The vendor collaborated closely with supplier binderholz, adapting the design to use proprietary connections that accelerated fabrication and erection. The resulting building achieved significant reductions in construction schedule, cost, and embodied carbon, and supports net-zero-energy operations targeting LEED v4 Platinum.

Under Armour
