State Farm Arena Renovation adds 12,000 square feet of video space with Thornton Tomasetti

The Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority, owner of State Farm Arena, sought to transform the venue into a premier social and entertainment hub. They engaged Thornton Tomasetti to provide structural design services for a major renovation, which included the complex challenge of removing support columns to create a more open and engaging fan experience.

Thornton Tomasetti designed and engineered a new 175-foot transfer truss to support the roof after the removal of four critical columns. They utilized advanced BIM software and 3D laser scanning for efficient coordination and construction. This innovative structural solution allowed for the successful creation of new concourses, suites, and social spaces, fundamentally redefining the live entertainment experience at the arena without impacting the existing building envelope.
