Sheraton Hotel completes $80 million Denver hotel renovation with Thornton Tomasetti

The Sheraton Hotel in Denver undertook a major $80 million renovation of its downtown property, which included updating over 1,300 guest rooms and suites. Their challenge was to execute this large-scale project while the hotel's multi-level underground parking garage remained operational. Thornton Tomasetti was engaged to provide construction engineering services for the structural steel erection phase.

Thornton Tomasetti designed and evaluated a steel grillage crane mat to support outrigger loads and verified the existing structure could handle crane wheel loads. Their solution included designing a concrete access ramp and providing shoring for the slab through the operational parking levels. Thornton Tomasetti provided site observations throughout the construction process, enabling the successful completion of this transformative renovation in 2021.
