Case Study: Scotiabank Arena improves acoustics and renovation performance with Thornton Tomasetti structural design

A Thornton Tomasetti Case Study

Scotiabank Arena improves arena acoustics with Thornton Tomasetti across 665,000 ft²

The customer, Scotiabank Arena (originally the Air Canada Centre), faced a challenge with problematic reverberant behavior in its arena bowl during a major renovation and rebranding. Thornton Tomasetti was engaged to provide acoustic consulting services to address these acoustic performance issues.

Thornton Tomasetti measured the RT60 and STI at various locations and provided specific acoustic treatment recommendations for the arena bowl and the ScotiaClub lounge. The solution implemented their recommendations to improve the acoustic performance, providing the arena with baseline characteristics to guide future sound system improvements. The renovation was completed in 2019.
