The customer, PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn. Berhad, faced the challenge of constructing the second tallest building in the world, Merdeka 118, and required expert oversight of its complex structural design. They engaged vendor Thornton Tomasetti to provide structural peer review services throughout the project's various design phases.

Thornton Tomasetti delivered a detailed structural peer review during each design phase and was later re-engaged to review a value engineering redesign proposal, evaluating the feasibility of structural alternatives and their impact. As a result of this collaboration, the megatall Merdeka 118 tower was successfully completed in 2022, achieving its status as the world's second tallest building.
