Case Study: MetLife Stadium accelerates NFL stadium delivery with Thornton Tomasetti’s BIM-driven structural engineering

A Thornton Tomasetti Case Study

MetLife Stadium opens in under 3 years with Thornton Tomasetti

MetLife Stadium, home to the NY Giants and NY Jets, required a new, massive 2.2-million-square-foot venue to be built on an aggressive, fast-tracked timeline. Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design and construction engineering services to meet this challenge and create one of the largest stadiums in the NFL.

Thornton Tomasetti utilized extensive building information modeling (BIM) to accelerate construction, cutting several months from the schedule and enabling intricate coordination that avoided field conflicts. The project incorporated 70,000 tons of recycled material from the old stadium, diverted 7,000 tons of debris from landfills, and achieved LEED Gold Certification, all while completing the venue in less than three years.
