Louisiana Stadium & Exposition District completes Caesars Superdome capital improvements with Thornton Tomasetti, including 16 new elevators and 2,300 tons of steel

The Louisiana Stadium & Exposition District, owner of the Caesars Superdome, faced the challenge of modernizing the 1975-era iconic stadium while it remained fully operational. The multifaceted project required enhancing accessibility, adding new amenities, and ensuring structural integrity, all to be completed in phased work over five off-seasons. Thornton Tomasetti was engaged to provide structural engineering and construction engineering services.

Thornton Tomasetti implemented its Advanced Project Delivery (APD) service, facilitating a highly collaborative approach with the contractor and fabricator. The solution included creating large atria and "super voms" for ADA seating, installing 16 new elevators through the building's narrowest section, and using a detailed Tekla model to accelerate the procurement and detailing of 2,300 tons of steel. The results ensured the stadium was ready for each NFL season, modernized amenities, significantly improved accessibility, and preserved a vital community landmark. Thornton Tomasetti's work contributed to the project receiving a platinum award for engineering excellence.
