Case Study: Lotte Coralis Vietnam Co. Ltd. achieves cost savings and improved constructability with Thornton Tomasetti structural peer review

A Thornton Tomasetti Case Study

Lotte Coralis Vietnam Co. Ltd. builds 65-story, 272 m Lotte Center Hanoi with Thornton Tomasetti

Thornton Tomasetti provided structural peer review and value engineering services to Lotte Coralis Vietnam Co. Ltd. for the Lotte Center Hanoi, a 65-story mixed-use tower. A key challenge was finding the optimal structural solution for the floor framing and lateral load-resisting system for this complex project, which is the second tallest building in Vietnam.

Working closely with the architect and wind consultant, Thornton Tomasetti designed an innovative high-rise structural system. This solution utilized flat-slab perimeter spandrel beams and a concrete wall with exterior columns linked by steel outriggers. The study eliminated two perimeter belt walls, which resulted in considerable construction cost savings for the owner and improved the project's overall constructability.
