Case Study: Gensler restores One Indiana Square with Thornton Tomasetti's emergency response and façade engineering

A Thornton Tomasetti Case Study

Gensler restores One Indiana Square’s 16-story façade damage with Thornton Tomasetti

Gensler faced a significant challenge when the 37-story One Indiana Square tower in Indianapolis was severely damaged by a storm with tornado-level winds. The high winds caused extensive damage to the building's glass façade across 16 stories, requiring immediate action. The firm Thornton Tomasetti was engaged to provide emergency response and envelope renewal services.

Thornton Tomasetti stabilized the building, evaluated the damage, and performed interim repairs. They then provided design services for a new curtain wall overclad system. This fast-track, design-build effort was completed in 2009 and involved advanced 3D analysis and wind tunnel testing. As a result, Thornton Tomasetti delivered a renewed façade for the third tallest building in Indianapolis, restoring the structure's integrity and safety.
