Case Study: Columbia Property Trust restores 315 Park Avenue South with Thornton Tomasetti

A Thornton Tomasetti Case Study

Columbia Property Trust restores 315 Park Avenue South’s façade with Thornton Tomasetti

Columbia Property Trust faced the challenge of restoring and repositioning their historic 315 Park Avenue South building, originally known as the Remington Rand Building, to a best-in-class commercial property. They engaged the services of Thornton Tomasetti for building envelope renewal, structural renewal, and historic preservation to address the aging façade and its original copper cornice which was at the end of its service life.

Thornton Tomasetti implemented a comprehensive solution that included replacing the cornice in-kind with new copper, restoring the brick, stone, and terra cotta façades, and installing new energy-efficient windows. This work not only returned the Beaux Arts exterior to its original glory but also helped the building achieve Energy Star certification. Additionally, Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design services for tenant fit-outs, supporting the building's modern commercial use.
