Boston Properties preserves 90 Church Street with Thornton Tomasetti’s 100% façade review

The customer, Boston Properties, manages the historic United States Post Office Church Street Station building in New York. Following the collapse of the adjacent World Trade Center towers, they faced the challenge of assessing and repairing the significant damage to the National Register-listed property. They engaged the vendor, Thornton Tomasetti, for structural renewal, envelope renewal, and historic preservation services.

Thornton Tomasetti implemented a comprehensive, multi-phase solution that included immediate stabilization, a full façade investigation, and the installation of an impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system to halt corrosion in the steel columns. This system successfully arrested the displacement of the building's massive corner stone blocks, which have shown no movement since its implementation. The vendor continues to provide ongoing support with regular façade inspections and phased repairs, ensuring the historic building's long-term preservation.
