The Ministry of Defence (MOD) needed to replace paper-based pension statements after introducing a new Armed Forces Pension Scheme in 2015. Working with Thomsons Online Benefits, the MOD set out to give its personnel a secure, anonymous, and globally accessible way to understand pension entitlements and the impact of career decisions across a highly complex scheme.

Thomsons Online Benefits delivered the UK Armed Forces Pension Calculator, a user-friendly platform accessible in 60+ countries and designed to store no personally identifiable data. The solution generated more than 60,000 hits in five days, has supported 4.1 million calculations, and has saved the MOD £37.5m to date, while also becoming a valuable recruitment and retention tool.
