Optimizing Billing Success Through 3e Certification

BakerHostetler, a national Am Law 100 firm with more than 1,000 fee earners across 14 offices, faced the dual challenge of moving from Enterprise to 3E and regionalizing billing with just 33 billing coordinators supporting multiple locations. The firm needed a tailored training and onboarding program to ensure consistent, advanced billing skills and reliable support for attorneys when coordinators were not colocated with the lawyers they served.

BakerHostetler partnered with Thomson Reuters Elite Education Services (and Source Consulting Group) to create a customized 3E Certification boot-camp—four days of intensive, hands-on training followed by an exam—delivered on-site and later run in-house. Over 2.5 years all coordinators and local accounting staff were certified, producing consistent firm-wide billing practices, improved remote collaboration and template-driven invoicing, faster, more accurate bill delivery, and greater confidence among attorneys.
