Hartmann selects the Thinkwise low-code platform to modernize its Crew Management System

Hartmann Global IT, part of the Hartmann Group—a family-owned global shipping company with about 150 vessels and 5,000 employees—faced a critical challenge: its 19‑year‑old custom Crew Management System (SQL Server back end with an Access front end) had become costly and complex to maintain. To move from maintenance to process improvement and innovation, Hartmann Global IT selected the Thinkwise low-code platform, using the Thinkwise Platform and Thinkwise Upcycler to modernize legacy applications.

Thinkwise began with a Proof of Concept using the Thinkwise Upcycler and then trained Hartmann’s developers on the Thinkwise Platform; Hartmann Global IT built a mobile crewing app for Android and iPhone in roughly six months, successfully load‑tested to about 5,000 users and now used by ~5,000 crew members worldwide. The Thinkwise solution accelerated development (allowing business logic at the database level), reduced reliance on legacy maintenance, and set the stage for full modernization of the core Crew Management System with ongoing Thinkwise support.
