NZ Avocado benchmarks avocados at 0.7 kg CO2-eq per kg with thinkstep-anz

NZ Avocado, the industry body for New Zealand avocado growers, sought to understand and benchmark the environmental performance of its supply chain. To achieve this, they commissioned a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) from vendor thinkstep-anz to measure their key environmental impacts.

thinkstep-anz conducted the LCA, which provided a scientific benchmark for the industry's performance. The study measured the carbon footprint, nutrient losses to waterways, water footprint, and toxic losses to the environment. A key result was a carbon footprint of 0.7kg of CO2-eq per kilogram of packaged avocados. NZ Avocado will use these findings to improve industry practices and reduce its environmental footprint.
