ASBEC develops embodied carbon roadmap with thinkstep-anz after reviewing 250+ policies

The Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC), the peak body for Australia's built environment, faced a fragmented policy landscape around reducing embodied carbon emissions. With policies developing in isolation, there were significant gaps and confusion. ASBEC needed a partner to unite government, industry, and researchers to turn complex evidence into a practical policy direction, and they engaged sustainability consultancy thinkstep-anz for its expertise.

thinkstep-anz conducted a comprehensive review of over 250 international policies and led a cross-sector stakeholder engagement program. This work identified seven key decarbonisation challenges and 45 potential solutions, which were published in an influential Issues Paper. The vendor's solution created a shared understanding across sectors and established the foundational roadmap for a national framework to reduce embodied carbon in Australia's built environment.
