Somerset Care, one of the UK’s largest not-for-profit care providers, needed a better way to manage complex rotas, payroll, and labour costs across many sites. With variable calendars, different shift requirements, and high people costs, the organization was struggling with manual, inconsistent planning and wanted greater control, transparency, and standardization. Thinking Software provided Rota Horizon to help address these challenges.

Thinking Software implemented Rota Horizon across Somerset Care’s homes, giving staff an easy drag-and-drop rota system, on-screen roster-style reports, holiday planning tools, and payroll integration with PayRite. The result was a standardized approach that improved control, reduced manual paperwork, and made payroll processing much faster and more accurate; weekly payroll can now be completed in under 2 hours, with fewer errors and quicker, more reliable management information on labour costs, sickness, absence, and contracted hours.
