Saint Thomas Elgin General Hospital - Customer Case Study

Saint Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) faced the challenge of implementing provincial digital Quality-Based Procedures (QBP) clinical order sets within their existing Cerner CPOE system. They needed to embed this standardized content and report on usage metrics but encountered difficulties with integration, maintaining updates in the complex Cerner environment, and comparing data due to a lack of standardization. They worked with vendor Think Research to adapt the order sets for their system.

Think Research took a collaborative approach to translate the provincial QBP content into a library of Cerner-compatible order sets within its clinical ontology architecture. This involved meticulous data mapping and testing to ensure consistency for reporting. As a result, STEGH successfully implemented 32 digital QBP order sets through 11 Cerner PowerPlans for eight distinct conditions within the first six months, enabling standardized, evidence-based care with minimal workflow interruption for clinicians.
