V&A Dundee Widens Access with Virtual Museum Exhibitions in ThingLink

The V&A Dundee, Scotland's first design museum, faced a challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic forced its physical closure, preventing public and student access to its exhibitions. To overcome this, the museum partnered with the vendor ThingLink to create accessible virtual learning resources and online exhibits.

Using ThingLink's interactive platform, the museum developed standalone virtual scenes for exhibitions like "Mary Quant" and "Now Accepting Contactless." These digital exhibits featured multimedia tags, including audio, video, curator insights, and BSL-interpreted content, creating a self-led and deeply engaging visitor experience. For V&A Dundee, the ThingLink solution increased accessibility for global and local audiences, provided a lasting digital archive for ended exhibitions, and fostered new international collaborations, such as with Bendigo Museum in Australia.
