A Thinglink Case Study
The University of Salford faced a challenge where students on its Public Health degree programme were often unable to attend a crucial residential field trip to Eyam due to access, work, or family commitments. These students previously had to engage with less immersive campus-based activities instead. They turned to vendor ThingLink to develop a more engaging virtual alternative.
Using ThingLink, the team created the Virtual Eyam project, an immersive and interactive experience that transports learners to the 17th-century village. The solution incorporated AI-generated 360° environments, animated character narratives, and educational resources. ThingLink enabled the university to deliver this experience across multiple platforms, from VR headsets to mobile devices. The result is a fully immersive, realistic, and interactive educational resource that provides a comparable experience to the physical field trip for students who cannot attend.
