L’Echo Creates Award-Winning Multimedia Journalism with ThingLink

L’Echo, a daily business media brand in Brussels, faced the challenge of creating immersive, mobile-friendly journalism to cover a large-scale urban redevelopment project. They wanted to assess the plan's impact and visually showcase the considerable geographical area's transformation for their growing mobile audience. To achieve this, they turned to the vendor ThingLink and its interactive 360° visualization tools.

The solution involved creating a multimedia article with interactive 360° images captured via drone. Using ThingLink, the L’Echo team added graphic layers and interactive buttons to provide context. This allowed them to tell the story through a blend of text, data, and immersive visuals. The results for ThingLink were highly successful: the article garnered over 160,000 views with an overall open rate of 15% (44% on one visualization), significantly exceeding their usual audience engagement. The project also won the Belfius annual journalism prize, with the jury praising its excellent multimedia work and aesthetic focus.
