MP Materials implements site-wide automation with Thermo Systems in 18 months

MP Materials Corp., a leading manufacturer of rare earth and rare metal products, faced the challenge of modernizing its large-scale Mountain Pass production facility. The aging plant required a comprehensive, site-wide industrial control system to integrate its various mining, power generation, and chemical processes. To meet this need, MP Materials partnered with Thermo Systems to develop an Automation Master Plan.

Thermo Systems designed, tested, and commissioned a robust automation solution featuring redundant ControlLogix PLCs, a GE iFIX SCADA system, and an intricate Cisco IT network. This implementation integrated over sixteen PLC pairs and 130 remote I/O panels into a single site-wide system. The solution provided MP Materials with the technologically advanced and secure automation foundation needed for its operations, ensuring continuity and seamless integration for all future projects.
